Biography

April Chung is a classically trained pianist, composer, and educator whose music blurs the lines between tradition and innovation. Her compositions invite listeners into immersive, atmospheric worlds where classical influences seamlessly blend with modern vibes.

Starting her musical journey in Boston, and continuing through Los Angeles, Bordeaux, and Amsterdam, April’s diverse experiences shape her varied musical styles. She has collaborated with record labels such as Little Symphony Records, Sonder House, Black Rainbow Group, and ADA Benelux Warner Music Group. In addition to composing, April performs as both a soloist and chamber musician, sharing her artistry on stage as well as in the studio.

The recent EP “sous les étoiles” is a piano set of three that is inspired by the gem of French literature “Le Petit Prince.” The use of improvisation and a slight dose of jazz give a feeling of the unlimited possibility she found within the creativity of little ones. It serves as etudes for pedagogical purpose.

The debut album "Marco Piccolo's 12 Enchanted Moments" came out in May, 2021. It is a set of piano work that accompanies the picture book "The Enchanted Bells- Marco Piccolo's Musical Adventure" written by April Chung. Designed and written for late beginners/intermediates as teaching materials by April Chung, the pieces are composed in short length on purpose.

One of the most popular albums "Instant Memories from Amsterdam" was released on the 8th of April, 2022. It contains five piano solo pieces, which were based on five images in Amsterdam.

April Chung also enjoys her fruitful career as a music pedagogue, composing music tailored to her students' interests and needs. Her students include all ages, and the subjects range from piano playing to music theory, harmony and counterpoint, ear training, form and analysis, as well as music appreciation.

Ms. Chung holds a Masters of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Southern California under the studios of Professor Bernadene Blaha and Professor Daniel Pollack. Ms. Chung also holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee under the instruction of Professor YaFei Chuang.

Finally releasing the single ‘For Elise’ in one week! 🤍 so excited. This is a piece I’ve collaborated on with Austin Ray (@austinraycomposer), a film composer whose music I can’t recommend enough. #collaborator In 2022, I had the opportunity to join the family of Little Symphony Records (now Enjou Records). That’s when my luck seemed to fall from the sky—to work with the sound architect, pianist, and composer Douglas Parth, @douglas.parth, on the piece ‘Shapeshifter.’ To me, Doug’s music is always full of surprises- thrilling and playful. It’s not conventional, and definitely not boring. It’s something that keeps you listening much like a well-written novel that can’t be put down. What’s interesting is that no matter how you look at it—as a pianist, a percussionist, or a producer— every detail is meticulously crafted. Of course... he is a multi-instrumentalist. Now, I’m humbled to announce that there’s finally a dose of Doug’s creation in my catalogue of music works. ‘Shapeshifter,’ a collaborative work with Doug, is now available everywhere!
