April Chung is a pianist and composer, primarily focusing on the neoclassical style in her works.

BIOGRAPHY

April Chung is a classical-trained pianist, composer and educator. Born in Taipei city of Taiwan, April Chung developed her musical path in Boston, Los Angeles, Sacramento and Bordeaux, France. She currently lives in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

As a composer, her compositions are often written in classical forms brushed with contemporary colours. Influenced by various musicians such as J.S Bach, Claude Debussy, George Gershwin and Brad Mehldau, April Chung covers a wide range of the styles in her music. She has collaborated with record labels such as Little Symphony Records, Sonder House, Black Rainbow Group, and ADA Benelux Warner Music Group. Besides composing, April Chung also performs as a soloist and chamber musician.

The recent EP “sous les étoiles” is a piano set of three pieces inspired by the gem of French literature “Le Petit Prince.” The use of improvisation and a touch of jazz provides a sense of the unlimited possibilities she found within the creativity of little ones. These three pieces serve as etudes for pedagogical purposes.

The debut album "Marco Piccolo's 12 Enchanted Moments" came out in May, 2021. It is a set of piano work that accompanies the picture book "The Enchanted Bells- Marco Piccolo's Musical Adventure" written by April Chung. Designed and written for late beginners/intermediates as teaching materials by April Chung, the pieces are composed in short length on purpose. 

One of the most popular albums, "Instant Memories from Amsterdam," was released on the 8th of April, 2022. It contains five piano solo pieces, which were based on five images in Amsterdam. 

April Chung also enjoys her fruitful career as a music pedagogue, composing music tailored to her students' interests and needs. Her students include all ages, and the subjects range from piano playing to music theory, harmony and counterpoint, ear training, form and analysis, as well as music appreciation.

Ms. Chung holds a Masters of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Southern California under the studios of Professor Bernadene Blaha and Professor Daniel Pollack. Ms. Chung also holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee under the instruction of Professor YaFei Chuang.
